Audio-Technica ATH-ANC9 headphones

Audio-Technica makes some pretty awesome audio equipment, like our favorite noise-cancelling earbuds the ATH-ANC23, which we’ve reviewed here. Well the company is now updating its full-sized cans and has just announced the ATH-ANC9 QuietPoint active noise-cancelling over-the-ear headphones.

The ATH-ANC9 headphones improve noise cancelling performance, with Audio-Technica claiming that they can block up to 95% of outside noise. Active noise cancelling headphones include a powered circuit that creates an out-of-phase wave to outside noise that effectively cancels it, you can read more about the technology in our primer here. The ANC9s provide three different selectable noise-cancelling settings, targeted for use in airplanes, trains and buses, crowded places and finally already quiet locations like libraries for even more peace of mind.

The headphones come with an optional extension cable that includes an inline microphone and controller with support for the iPhone, iPad and iPod for controlling music and answering calls — just make sure you keep your voice down.

Inside you’ll find 40mm drivers with an input sensitivity of 100db. The headphones’ ANC circuit is powered by a AAA battery, but they will also work in passive mode without batteries, something we really like as they are nothing worse than being left with dead cans.

Other features include replaceable memory foam earpads and the ATH-ANC9 can fold flat for easy storage. They also come with an airline adapter, a 1/4-inch socket adapter and a handy carrying case.

These can be picked up now at a suggested retail price of $350 directly from Audio-Technica or you might wanna check online retailers as they are already selling for $300 at Amazon now.
